The invisible line at NAB

Ian Rogers

What do the other 34,000 people working for National Australia Bank do with their time?

In a fascinating disclosure in a submission to the Senate committee on regional bank closures, NAB divulged the following:

A grand total of 900 people are working the phones in the contact centres.

Then there’s 200 or so working the online chat channel.

Of course, there’s all the branch staff, but NAB did not enumerate them.

Then there’s business banking, institutional banking, treasury, risk, compliance, technology, the corporate centre and lord knows what else.
