Briefs: Rowell leaves APRA, KPMG chair to join NAB board

  • APRA deputy chair Helen Rowell is finishing up at the regulator today, June 30. Rowell worked at APRA for 21 years and was appointed deputy chair in 2015. She has focused on insurance, where she led reforms to the capital framework, and superannuation, where she oversaw the creation of APRA’s capital framework for that industry. She will be remembered for putting pressure on super fund trustees to improve their performance or exit the sector.
  • The outgoing national chair of KPMG Australia, Alison Kitchen, has joined the NAB board as an independent non-executive director. Kitchen will leave KPMG in August and take up her position on the NAB board the following month. She has been KPMG chair for six years and a KPMG employee for over 30 years. She has advised on a range of areas, including external audit, transaction support, risk management, internal controls, business processes and regulatory change.
