Briefs: Google moves from payments to banking, new Smartpay CFO Sydney-based

  • Google has relaunched its Google Pay service, with an Insights function that allows users to connect their bank accounts to the app to get an overview of their finances. Google said next year it will launch a savings account in partnership a number of financial institutions, including Citi. The company did not say whether the service will be available outside the US.

 

  • Payments processing company Smartpay has followed up the appointment of new chief executive Martyn Pomeroy in September with the hiring of a new chief financial officer. New CFO Mark Fortugno will be based in Sydney – a reflection of the company’s increased focus on the Australian market. Pomeroy works in the Auckland head office. Fortugno was most recently CFO at hospitality company Trippas White.
