Briefs: FCA launches petition over Afterpay ad, Earlypay management changes, Peppermint licensed in

  • After having its complaint to Ad Standards Australia dismissed, Financial Counselling Australia has taken its campaign against Afterpay’s latest ad campaign to the people. FCA has launched a petition seeking support for its call to Afterpay to pull the ad featuring actor Rebel Wilson explaining the “benefits” of buy now pay later to a young girl. Ad Standards Australia said the ad complies with its standards and Afterpay defended it, saying it explained key features of BNPL “in a light-hearted and relatable way.”

 

  • Finance company Earlypay has promoted its chief commercial officer James Beeson to the roles of chief operating officer and executive director. Beeson joined Earlypay last year, when it acquired invoice finance company Skippr. He is leading the company’s digital transformation.

 

  • Fintech Peppermint Innovation has been granted a financial lending licence by the Securities Exchange Commission in the Philippines, allowing it to offer “micro-enterprise loans” through bizmoto – a mobile payments, remittance and purchasing app. The company will run a three-month pilot of the new service, bizmoPay.
