The Council of Financial Regulators says it plans to provide its report of its Review into small and medium-sized banks, conducted with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to the government by July 1st.
Late last week the Council said it discussed policy changes that could better support competition, “including introducing greater proportionality in certain areas of regulation, and measures to facilitate entry, sustainability and growth for small and medium-sized banks.”
This is the umpteenth review into banking, or segments of the banking industry, often by these very same regulators (and sometimes by the Productivity Commission) - few of which leave a lasting imprint.
