European banks centralise funding

European banks may raise the best part of €1 billion in three-year funding from the European Central Bank, the UK Financial Times reports.

Several of the eurozone's biggest banks told the Financial Times that they could double or triple their request for funds in the ECB's auction of three-year funding on February 29. The newspaper cited "three bank chief executives" for its report.

The FT also reported that Goldman Sachs has told clients that banks could ask for twice as much in the February auction as in December, when more than 500 lenders raised €489 billion.
