Anderson was CEO of National Bank of New Zealand from 1989 to 2003, and of ANZ National Bank from 2003 to 2005. He served on the board of Commonwealth Bank NZ between 2007 and 2016. Anderson also had a love of sport and served as the chair of NZ Cricket, and was a director of the International Cricket Council, amongst numerous other board roles.
