Australian banking news cycle takes a retro turn

Ian Rogers
It's a mostly conventional format for today's edition. But Good Friday is an unconventional day for us to publish.

The Financial Review has gone quiet, as is standard over Easter. For one more experiment, we're publishing into this void. Plus there's plenty of news flow, the lead with a retro feel.

If there's one thing going in Australian banking at the moment it's a pretty determined push to ramp up credit growth. Our first article today, based on a Westpac presentation yesterday morning, is all very 2003, 2004, 2005.

The long, dull post GFC period in Australian banking is being cast into the shadows at last and a period of secular credit expansion taking hold.

Ideal!

And thanks to those readers who came forward yesterday with considered comments about Thursday's trial edition. We welcome more.
