Visa has introduced a new payment service in Australia, Click to Pay, which it says will simplify the online checkout process.
Visa said in a media release that Click to Pay removes manual entry of card details, passwords and other steps usually involved in an online purchase.
Users must register their debit, credit or prepaid card for the service. Merchants that offer Click to Pay display an arrow-like logo on their websites, which means the consumers can bypass any data or password fields.
The service is based an EMV secure remote commerce industry standard that was adopted by Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover last October.
According to Visa, Click to Pay makes the online purchase experience the same as using a payment terminal in a store.
Local businesses that have already signed up to offer it include Pizza Hut, Ticketek and Optus. Visa did not say what the cost to merchants would be.
