New Westpac business chief hired from CBA

05 February 2025 6:08AM

Paul Fowler, a senior executive at Commonwealth Bank, has been appointed by Westpac as the bank’s Chief Executive, Business & Wealth.

This is the position previously held by Westpac’s new CEO Anthony Miller.

Fowler at present is Executive General Manager, Regional and Agribusiness Banking at CBA.  Fowler will be the first senior executive of CommBank to cross over to Westpac in a very long time.

Joining CBA in 2015, Fowler first served as Executive General Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions. In 2020 he became CFO, Institutional Banking and Markets. He joined CBA’s business bank in late 2021.

Prior to joining CBA, Fowler spent more than a decade in corporate finance, with roles at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, predominantly advising financial institutions, in both Australia and offshore.

“Paul has built an impressive track record of success over a long career, most recently leading business banking across regional Australia for CBA,” Anthony Miller said.

Paul Fowler will commence in his new role at Westpac mid-year.

He will take over from Peter Herbert, the acting Chief Executive, Business & Wealth.
