Mortgage broker share has peaked

The latest Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia figures shows that brokers wrote 67.2 per cent of all home loans in the June 2023 quarter.

This is down from share of 69.6 per cent in the March quarter and a peak of 71.7 per cent in the September quarter last year.

MFAA chief executive Anja Pannek said in a statement: “While mortgage broker share did slip slightly, this is consistent with normal fluctuations we have observed over the nearly 11 years we have been tracking the measure.”

Pannek said the outlook is positive, with the refinancing boom bringing a whole new group of clients to brokers. In addition, mortgage brokers are writing more commercial loans.
