Briefs: RBNZ chief economist departs, new CEO takes reins at Westpac NZ

16 November 2021 6:20AM
Yuong Ha, the Reserve Bank of NZ’s Head of Economics and Chief Economist, is leaving the bank after 25 years. Ha, who will leave after the February 2022 MPS, is also an inaugural member of the RBNZ Monetary Policy Committee and will be resigning from that role as well.  Westpac NZ’s new CEO, Catherine McGrath, has taken the reins at the bank and marked her first day with a profile in the bank’s publication REDnews and an interview warning that COVID’s real impact for New Zealand is yet to come. Simon Power, who stepped up as Acting CEO following the departure of David McLean in June, has resumed his role as General Manager Institutional and Business Banking. Meanwhile, the bank's CFO Ian Hankins has also taken on a new role, as General Manager Consumer Banking and Wealth, reports interest.co.nz. He takes over from Gina Dellabarca who is “on a career break”. Hankins’ former deputy, Kerry Conway, is now Acting CFO.
