Briefs: New ACCC commissioners, smart ticketing launch in Queensland

14 December 2020 6:07AM
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has appointed two new commissioners to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Anna Brakey is moving from Frontier Economics, where she specialised in infrastructure economics and regulation. She also spent 20 years at the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal. Peter Crone was senior economic adviser to Prime Minister John Howard from 1997 to 2006. He has also worked as chief economist at the Business Council of Australia, EY and Coles Group.

Queensland has switched on the first phase of its smart ticketing system. Starting today, devices at Gold Coast tram stations will accept MasterCard and American Express card and mobile device payments, in addition to the existing Go card. The system is supplied by Cubic Transportation Systems. The Queensland public transport agency Translink said it was looking for other payment networks to join.
