ANZ's new head of Middle East, Ranjit Roy

  • American Express has teamed up with PayPal in Australia in a deal that will allow Amex card holders to use their Membership Rewards points for PayPal purchases. It is the first time Australian consumers have been able to shop with PayPal using rewards points from a non-PayPal source. Director of partnerships and loyalty for Amex Australia, Liana Kohn-Gardner, said travel is a popular way for Amex card holders to redeem their points but because people are travelling less their points balances have built up. Amex has looked for new ways to allow them to use their points.

  • Ranjit Roy is ANZ's new head of Middle East operations, following the retirement of Rajesh Thapar. In this role, Roy reports to Vishnu Shahaney, head of South East Asia, India and the Middle East and country head Singapore. As head of financial institutions, Middle East, he will continue to report to Mark Harding, head of financial institutions for South East Asia, India and the Middle East. Roy, who has been with ANZ for 10 years, previously held senior roles at global banks including HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank, ABN AMRO and Royal Bank of Scotland in areas such as institutional client coverage, transaction banking, treasury operations, consumer banking and expatriate banking services.
