Whybin TBWA lands ANZ global account

18 March 2011 6:13PM
ANZ has taken its advertising agency relationship down to one, with the appointment of Whybin TBWA as its new global creative agency. Whybin TBWA has been appointed after a four-month competitive review, which saw the unexpected severing of a 14-year tie with creative agency M&C Saatchi last week, and the recent dumping of DDB. The new agency will spearhead ANZ's global branding ambitions. It will execute ANZ's global advertising creative effort from hubs in Melbourne and Auckland, and from the Whybin hub in Asia.Joyce Phillips, ANZ's group managing director for strategy and marketing, said, in an announcement, that the new single agency strategy would accelerate the development of ANZ from a "multi-domestic brand to a regional icon, as part of the bank's super-regional strategy." The new strategy comes just one month after ANZ's group general manager of marketing, Mark Lollback, left the bank after launching the review. He was with ANZ for just 12 months. M&C Saatchi will continue to support ANZ's OnePath wealth brand, and DDB will continue to support its Rugby World Cup 2011 sponsorship in New Zealand. According to Nielsen, ANZ spent A$49.9m on media in the 12 months to November last year.
