Victorian Teachers take mutual banking option

14 November 2011 5:37PM
Victorian Teachers Credit Union will adopt the term mutual bank, and drop the term credit union, making it the fifth institution to do so.Jonathan Hutchins, chair of the board of VTCU, wrote in a letter to members last week that it would take this step. An earlier notice of the annual meeting, while recommending a change in the name of the company to Victorian Teachers Limited, left the branding plans ambiguous."Our industry will be positioning itself as the 'mutual banking' industry," Hutchins wrote. He said that "in future the term 'credit union' is less likely to be used by both the industry and individual organisations."Those already using the term mutual bank or soon to do so are Queensland Teachers (now trading as QT Mutual), bankmecu, NSW Teachers and Heritage.
