V.me goes live

19 December 2013 5:41PM
Visa's secure online payment system, V.me, went into operation yesterday. The system is designed to allow users to pay online by entering a single user name and password, allowing shoppers to avoid having to enter their account and personal details into multiple merchant websites.Visa said online retailers that have signed up to use V.me include JB Hi-Fi, Lorna Jane, Cotton On, Escape Travel, Skiddoo, City Beach, Scoopom and Moshtix.Consumers can use V.me on a computer or mobile device. Visa has taken an "open wallet" approach, which means that users will be able to enable any payment card, including pre-paid cards.V.me stores personal account information, as well as delivery addresses for goods purchased online. This information is not passed on to the merchant when a payment is made through V.meVisa said it was currently working with 40 financial institutions, including ANZ, National Australia Bank, Westpac, Suncorp, Citigroup and ING Direct.Visa's head of V.me for Asia Pacific, Greg Storey, said about half its partner financial institutions are currently enrolling customers. Consumers can also enroll through merchant sites and through the V.me website.
