Suncorp Metway plans to open up to 40 new branches in Queensland, according to the
Courier Mail. Some of the staff for the branches will be people who have lost, or will lose, work in the back office as more functions are contracted out to Australian financial services group Perpetual and Indian-based processing group Infosys.
The bank is basically getting rid of 250 back-office staff but redeploying them with the creation of 270 new jobs in the front offices, according to the newspaper. Suncorp will implement the outsourcing arrangements between now and 2011, the Financial Review reported.
Most of the new branches will be in Queensland but several will be in Western Australia.
