Same-day value in 2012 for CBA merchants

31 October 2011 5:25PM
Commonwealth Bank says it will provide same-day value "over coming months" for merchants that use the bank to process debit card and credit card payments. At present, like all banks bar one, CBA processes most merchant payments as part of the batch settlement at the end of a working day.The bank says same-day settlement will soon apply every day, including on weekends and public holidays, at least for those customers who bank their proceeds into a Commonwealth Bank account. Same-day value will be possible for purchases made as late as 10pm.For those merchants who direct their proceeds to another bank the payment will still wait in the batch settlement queue. The shift in approach is one example of the renovation of product offerings made possible by the bank's redevelopment of core systems in recent years and by its payments hub.Bendigo Bank is the only bank presently offering same-day value to merchants, so far as this newsletter knows.
