Qudos Bank launches its new brand

05 April 2016 4:14PM
Qantas Credit Union has launched its new name, Qudos Bank, marking the completion of its transition to mutual bank status. The bank has also launched a new website and upgraded its online banking platform and mobile banking app.Qudos chief executive Scott King said there was a program of enhancements to the bank's technology that would roll out over the next three years.Qudos has 100,000 members, more than A$3 billion of assets and an A2 credit rating.King announced the move to mutual bank status last October, when he wrote to members saying the credit union brand was holding the institution back."Research reveals that 90 per cent of people still think they can't bank with us, slowing growth and our ability to invest in new products and offerings to make banking easier," he said. The group's research found that financial institutions with "bank" or "banking" in their name ranked more favourably than "credit union" on a range of sentiments, including "meets my banking needs", "provides a good deal", is "safe and secure" and "competitively priced products".As to the new name, King said: "Qudos is a twist on 'kudos', meaning praise, reward and recognition, which we felt was a great reflection of our mutual culture and how we can continue to differentiate ourselves from the major banks."
