PayPal cross payments landscape

PayPal have a 13 per cent share of offshore payments by Australian residents, a report by Edgar, Dunn & Company and commissioned by payment processor Adyen found.International payment card brands, such as MasterCard and Visa, account for 85 per cent of cross-border purchases out of Australia, EDC found.POLi Payments, now owned by Australia Post, accounted for a one per cent share.EDC sourced the data from Adyen's internal systems and from surveying their current customers.PayPal, an entity notorious for shielding meaningful metrics on its business, states at its Australian website that "more than six million" locals shop with PayPal while it has "more than 110,000" merchants.Data from the Australian Taxation Office, released in early 2016, provides one snapshot of PayPal's local performance. The ATO data showed the revenue, profit and tax paid of PayPal Australia in 2013-14 at A$255 million, $12 million and $3.6 million, respectively.
