Marketlend raises equity capital

16 June 2016 3:38PM
Marketplace lender Marketlend has completed its first round of external equity funding, raising A$1 million of capital. The funding was led by Jon Barlow, the founder and former chief executive of peer-to-peer asset manager Eaglewood Capital Management. Barlow has been appointed to the Marketlend board.Another investor is Mati Szeszkowski, the former leader of KKR's European technology team. Two unnamed local investors were also involved.Barlow and Szeszkowski have also committed to fund debt investment on the Marketlend platform.Marketlend, which was started in 2014, was previously funded entirely by its founder Leo Tyndall. The company specialises in trade credit, providing supply chain and debtor loan facilities secured by short-term receivables. One of Marketlend's distinctive features is that it insures its book against insolvency of borrowers and their debtors. The company claims this enables uninterrupted principal repayment on the majority of its facilities.Barlow said in a media release that he was attracted to "the superior value proposition offered to credit investors on the Marketlend platform - to be insured and secured while earning a strong return on capital."
