Kangaroo and Kauri bond prominent last week

26 July 2010 4:31PM
Issuance activity in domestic markets was dominated by kangaroo and kauri issuers last week. In Australia, International Finance Corporation and European Investment Bank raised a total of A$1.5 billion, resulting in year to date kangaroo issues amounting to 49 per cent of total issuance. At these levels, kangaroo issuance is proportionally in line with the record years of 2006 and 2007, when such issuance amounted to 51 per cent of the total. In New Zealand, World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) raised NZ$125 million, taking year to date kauri issuance to 34 per cent of total issuance. This is double the rate seen last year but only half way to meeting the proportion of more than 70 per cent seen in 2007 and 2005.
