IBM to manage central processing for NAB

17 December 2010 5:44PM
National Australia Bank has signed a multi-year deal with IBM likely to run to hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few years. This will see the computing giant take over the bank's central computing infrastructure. The deal, which has been in negotiation for the last 18 months, is the second big banking win for IBM in as many months. It follows the renewal of its services agreement with Westpac last month in a deal which has been valued at north of A$1 billion.NAB said the arrangement would drive greater efficiencies from its computing infrastructure. The precise length and value of the NAB-IBM deal has not been revealed. In a statement yesterday, IBM said it would "manage and transform NAB's infrastructure, including mainframes, storage and hosting services - plus its desktop fleet, printing, technology service desks and operating systems."IBM's list of work under the agreement includes upgrading the bank's workplace hardware and software; "collaboration and mobility"; support services; application development (including the use of private cloud capabilities) and converging core datacentre operations. There will also be increased levels of standardisation, virtualisation and desktop security, according to IBM.The computing giant also claimed that a number of employment offers had already been made to NAB employees and that it had been "delighted" with the uptake thus far. However, there is no indication of what is on offer to NAB employees who don't want to move.
