Foreign news: Barclays confirms Staley as CEO, faster payments coming to the US

29 October 2015 5:41PM
Barclays has confirmed former JP Morgan banker Jes Staley as its next CEO, following on from Antony Jenkins. Staley, the managing director of US hedge fund BlueMountain Capital, was first tipped for the role two weeks ago by many including The Independent. He will have a basic salary of £1.2 million, boosted to at least double that amount by extra pay and bonuses.
VocaLink, the UK company behind the real-time technology driving the UK Faster Payments Service, has signed up to help US operator, The Clearing House, build and deliver core elements of TCH's new real-time payment system for the United States.  In designing the capabilities of the system, TCH said it "made consumer protections a priority and intends for the new system to be compliant with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's 'Consumer Protection Principles' for faster payment system".
