FARMERS FAVOUR NICHE BANKS
The Age reports on research by ACNielsen into the reasons Australian farmers pick, and switch, their banks. The research may shed light on the gains in market share by the likes of Dutch-owned Rabobank, Elders Rural Bank (a joint venture between Bendigo Bank and Futuris) and also AWB's Landmark (which is a finance company). The ACNielsen research found farmers were loyal banking customers, but even so one-fifth of 2170 respondents to a survey said they would probably or definitely consider switching banks in the next year, most often because of better rates, fees or products, rather than any gripes over service.
