20 June 2014 3:55PM
Computershare has informed users of its secure digital mailbox service, Digital Post Australia, that the service will shut down at the end of July. Deliveries of digital mail stopped on June 19 and users need to export their documents before July 31.Users were told they would start to receive mail via the channels they were using before joining Digital Post Australia.Digital Post Australia was a joint venture of Computershare, Fuji Xerox and Zumbox Software launched in 2012 with the aim of providing a secure electronic address for security holdings, bank statements, legal documents and bills. Its business plan included the development of a payment facility similar to BPay View.Australia Post launched a similar service, Digital MailBox, last year and BPay launched BPay View, a system for receiving, storing and paying bills electronically, in 2003.Digital mailboxes have been a tough sell. BPay View has around 130 billers, compared with 44,000 billers on the standard BPay service. Australia Post is yet to report on the progress of Digital MailBox.
