Business looking to borrow

15 November 2013 5:26PM
Micro businesses, medium-sized businesses and corporates have all increased their demand for loans this year and are likely to continue to do so, research by East & Partners has found.Since the election, 25 per cent of micro businesses surveyed by East have said they plan to borrow more in the coming year. One third of small businesses also plan to do so, while a quarter of corporates have borrowing plans.Only 16 per cent of institutional bank customers have any borrowing plans, however.More than 15 per cent of smaller businesses said they planned to use asset finance to grow during the coming year, East said.Based on an analysis of the ratio of deposits to borrowings, by segment, East said there was a "record uptake in leverage by SMEs over recent months."At the tip end of the market, by contrast, the largest businesses were "depositing more per dollars borrowed than ever before."
