Briefs: ANZ names new head of US arm, heart attack pain for CommInsure, Rabobank NZ picks new CEO,

19 December 2017 5:30PM
ANZ's top executive in Japan, Grant Knuckey, is preparing to relocate to New York after he was appointed to head up the company's US operations. He replaces Truett Tate, who is retiring. Knuckey will report to Farhan Faruqui, ANZ's group executive of international. Knuckey, who has spent the past 15 years developing ANZ businesses throughout Asia, will take up his new role next April subject to regulatory approval. ANZ has hired an executive recruitment firm to fill the Tokyo vacancy. ASIC has wrapped up its investigation of CommInsure's advertising of two life insurance policies (Total Care Plan and Simple Life Insurance) after complaints of misleading and deceptive statements about the cover heart attack sufferers were entitled to.  CommInsure has been ordered to pay A$300,00 towards a consumer advice service and must have its advertising sign-off processes independently reviewed. ASIC found that advertising on CommInsure's website between mid-2013 and March 2016 may have led policyholders to believe they would be entitled to a lump sum if they had a heart attack, when in fact only certain types of heart attack (defined by strict medical criteria) were covered. Specialist rural banker Rabobank NZ has named its national manager for Australian country banking, Todd Charteris, as its pick for new CEO. Originally from a sheep and beef farm in Otago, Charteris joined Rabobank as a finance officer in small town Te Puke in 2000. He rose through the ranks before moving to Australia in 2012 to become Victorian state manager. Charteris will take over from departing CEO Daryl Johnson, subject to regulatory approval. ASB in New Zealand has appointed CBA's group executive, marketing and strategy Vittoria Shortt as its new CEO. Shortt, a New Zealander who started her career in audit and corporate finance at Deloitte, joined CBA (ASB's parent company) in 2002. During her 15 years at CBA she held the roles of chief marketing officer, chief executive retail for BankWest and executive general manager, direct channels and operations retail. She will replace retiring ASB CEO Barbara Chapman in early February.
