Brief: Former ANZ teller in court over theft charges, OzForex under takeover cloud
A former ANZ teller appeared in the Geelong Magistrates' Court this week to face a charge of stealing almost A$75,000 from an elderly customer with Alzheimer's, the Geelong Advertiser reports. The prosecutor said the former teller, Leeanne Dipiazza, knew the victim from assisting with her banking. She is accused of making 19 separate withdrawals from the customer's accounts between February and May this year. Dipiazza's lawyer said the money was loaned to his client. Online foreign exchange company OzForex Group has had a preliminary takeover approach, with NYSE-listed giant Western Union understood to be the acquirer, according to the AFR's Street Talk Online. Macquarie Group - which floated OzForex in 2013 - has been called in as defence adviser. Macquarie was also a shareholder in OzForex before it was listed. An announcement is likely to be made this morning.
