BOQ offline for a day

14 January 2011 4:50PM
Bank of Queensland suspended internet banking services to customers for most of yesterday because of unspecified issues arising from the flooding along the Brisbane River. The only comment the bank would offer for its action, through its spokesperson Caroline Dunworth, was that it was "due to some technical issues encountered as a result of necessary steps taken in managing the current flood crisis."The bank declined to respond to requests for a more thorough explanation.BOQ restored internet banking services early yesterday evening. More than 20 BOQ branches remain closed.Plenty of businesses based in the central business district of Brisbane, including financial firms, have had to resort to disaster recovery sites or improvise.Indue activated its disaster recovery site while its staff worked from home. This was mainly because access to its Toowong building was limited and there was flooding in the car park.Queensland Treasury Corp relocated to its recovery site at Eight Mile Plains south of the city, the same used by Credit Union Australia.FirstMac, a mortgage manager based in the Riverside Centre tower, in Eagle Street, farmed out work to its offices on the Gold Coast, in Sydney and in Melbourne while key head office staff worked from the managing director's home.
