BNZ limits internet transfers
Bank of New Zealand on Thursday cuts its daily limit on internet banking transfers to NZ$10,000 from NZ$15,000 in response to a phishing attack that also prompted the bank to suspend its internet banking services for several hours on Thursday afternoon and evening. The bank said in a media statement on Friday that "a very small number of customers" disclosed their personal information to the perpetrators of the attack. The bank didn't fully explain why it felt obliged to suspend services to all customers. The National Business Review quoted the bank as justifying suspending the service on the basis that it would allow time for any customers who "may have responded to the scam and are yet to contact us" to do so.
