Bank union fires back on ANZ job cuts

19 May 2016 4:37PM
The Finance Sector Union weighed in last night clear up data and themes on the peeling away of 200 jobs in Australia. This is 2.3 per cent of the total ANZ workforce in the country as of March 2016."There are six separate restructures running simultaneously," the FSU explained. The ANZ mid-2016 job cuts of 200 will be spread over 130 locations. Few, if any, Banking Day guesses, are at business units about to reach zero staffing. The bank is yet to share full details with the union."ANZ have given incomplete details of where the jobs are being cut and that makes it impossible for the Union to quickly support impacted members," Fiona Jordan, national secretary of the union said through a bulletin on its website. The version reaching the union adds this detail."ANZ has said 50 people will go into redeployment from 97 different locations in the Australian Branch Network," the FSU explained."Some of these locations don't even mention the town while others just mention an office tower that houses literally thousands of ANZ staff. It's impossible to get to these people in the time proposed by ANZ," Jordan said."In advising the FSU of the cuts, ANZ has imposed a brief and rushed 'consultation' period of as little as three or four days," she said."Despite this rush, ANZ has not disclosed critical information" Jordan wrote. She asked; "Which jobs are being cut?  Why are they being cut?  What is ANZ doing to avoid adverse impacts on staff? What will happen to the workload after these staff are gone?"Jordan said the FSU initiated a dispute with ANZ around the cutbacks and the failed consultation."It is our goal to ensure that every effort is made to save jobs and protect ANZ staff from even heavier workloads," she finished. The FSU may refer ANZ to the Fair Work Commission if dispute processes do not resolve matters.
