Bank at Post network survives

11 June 2014 3:32PM
A vital secondary distribution network for Australia's banks will keep its present form, with Australia Post protecting far flung post offices for now.Australia Post Group, as it evidently wants to be known, will reorganise around two brands: Australia Post, the existing retail and "trusted services" relied on by banks;  and a StarTrack parcel business.StarTrack will cater to "online marketplaces", suggesting Post's e-commerce endeavours will be divided; banks catered to on one side and Post's own ideas cultivated on the other.
Job cuts will be mainly in the head office, with "retail stores …not impacted," a Post statement said. "Expanding the range of trusted services" in post offices, such as identity checks for banks and transaction handling - were among four tangible reforms outlined yesterday by Australia Post managing director Ahmed Fahour.
