Apple not yet hearing CBA's Kaching
Apple is dragging the chain on the release of the Commonwealth Bank's Kaching iPhone app. Speaking at an Australian Information Industry Association event on Friday, Kelly Bayer Rosmann, CBA's executive general manager of business products and development, said Apple was still testing the product."We were hoping to hear from them before the break for the Thanksgiving holiday," she said. But even though Thanksgiving has come and gone the bank still expects its app to be available before the end of the year, she added.CBA launched Kaching more than four weeks ago with great fanfare. Bayer Rosmann said she hoped the market did not have to wait too much longer. "It's not vapourware," she said. "I have it on my phone." The bank and Apple may yet have to wrangle with the fact that Apple's app store already sells a Kaching app - just not CBA's. The existing Kaching app is a point of sale system for micro businesses and is sold by Calculat'd Inc.There is also as yet no firm date pencilled in for when CBA might launch the Near Field Communications chip-enabled case for the iPhone that is required to make use of a number of CBA's Kaching functions. There is no firm date for the release of an Android version either. The Android app store is also home to a similar app, dubbed Ka-Ching - a third app which is neither CBA's nor Calculat'd's.
