ANZ reshapes international management

17 December 2013 5:17PM
Andrew Geczy, the newish divisional head of ANZ's International and Institutional Banking division is tinkering with its management. He has appointed Gilles Plante to the new role of deputy chief executive of the IIB division, and also head of business performance management. Plante was formerly chief executive, Asia Pacific, for ANZ. He will remain a member of the ANZ management board.Geczy told staff that Plante's role is not being replaced, though a search is underway for a new head of international banking.Other appointments announced this week include Kevin Corbally, who has been named head of credit and capital management, which is a new role. Corbally was formerly head of institutional relationships, Australia.Catherine Carver has been appointed senior managing director, IIB, and will be responsible for senior client coverage at ANZ. Carver's current role as head of institutional Australia will not be refilled. And Sanjoy Sen, head of retail banking, Asia Pacific, has been elevated to the IIB leadership team.ANZ said the changes were made "to accelerate execution of ANZ's super-regional strategy, by improving business performance and removing duplication at a geographical level."Geczy wrote in note to staff that after "more than 60 days listening to more than 3000 people inside and outside ANZ about how things are done here… it is clear that we need more simplicity and clarity, better systems and stronger execution to fully unlock the potential of our franchise."
