MasterCard lost market share in Australia in 2002. The cards group said that gross dollar volumes on MasterCard branded credit cards increased by 14.9 per cent in Australia in 2002, though from what to what, they did not say.
MasterCard's rate of growth slowed over the last quarter of 2002, given the brand recorded growth in spending in Australia of 15.7 per cent in the nine months to September 2002.
Credit card spending in Australia increased by 19 per cent over the year to December 2002, according to the Reserve Bank's measure of the market.
